      <image:title>Whitney Friedman - Whitney R. Friedman, PhD</image:title>
<image:caption>I am an interdisciplinary marine scientist and quantitative ecologist working to inform effective and equitable conservation. My research has spanned across multiple systems, from coral reef fisheries and social-ecological systems, to the dynamics of the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem, to the social and cognitive complexity of wild bottlenose dolphins. As we confront a future of increased environmental variability, climate change, and increasing global populations, successful conservation and management of our marine coastal systems will be one of our most important mechanisms for ensuring resilient ecosystems and healthy coastal communities. I am committed to building out the science, practices, and community resources necessary to create a sustainable and just future.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Kristen Weiss - Kristen Weiss, PhD</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. Kristen Weiss is a freelance writer and editor specializing in science, sustainability, environment, and research communication. Previously, she was the Communications Coordinator for the Long Term Ecological Research network, an early career fellow in Science Communication at the Center for Ocean Solutions, Stanford University, and before that a lecturer in the Environmental Studies Program at the University of Southern California where she taught courses focused on ecology, sustainability, and natural resource management. Kristen received her PhD from James Cook University in Queensland, Australia, where she studied marine governance using policy network analysis, and worked with Torres Strait Islander Indigenous communities to make films about their ocean conservation practices based on Traditional Ecological Knowledge. In her free time she enjoys adventures with her tiny dog Buttercup–on her stand-up paddle board, at the beach, or in the forest. And taking naps. And writing. And contemplating the ridiculousness of existence. And roller skating, training horses, and rescuing animals.</image:caption>
